Lucknow: Demanding resignation of Chief Minister Mayawati over law and order situation in UP, Samajwadi Party on Monday said she should take moral responsibility for the current situation in the state which was being called "balatkari pradesh" following a spate of rape incidents.

"Mayawati should take moral responsibility of pitiable condition of law and order in the state and resign. It`s unfortuante that UP is known as `balatkari (rapist) pradesh` in her regime," opposition SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters here.

Citing incidents of rapes in Etah, Kanpur, Gonda, Basti, Kannauj, Saharanpur and others districts, Yadav alleged that the Chief Minister was in "deep slumber" while the administration was not paying any heed to the common man`s woes.

"The CM doesn`t meet anyone except two-three ministers and officers. It`s unfortunate that a chief minister is not available for common man.
