Jammu: BJP today described as "unfortunate" and in "bad taste" remarks made by Congress leader Saif-ud-Din Soz against L K Advani.

"It is most unfortunate, hurtful and in bad taste some of the personal derogatory remarks made by Soz against BJP leader L K Advani," BJP national executive member and J&K chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh told reporters here today.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committe chief Soz had during a Congress rally yesterday said, "No doubt Advani is a seasoned politician but simultaneously he is a frustrated man."

Taking exception to these remarks, BJP leader Singh said political discourse would degenerate if this trend continued.

"If this downward trend continues, one shudders to imagine to what low level the political discourse will fall in the times to come," the BJP leader said.

Soz had said Advani himself did not know what he said and later apologised in the House and added, "The BJP leader has no right to decide Congress`s fate in the forthcoming elections."

Singh said it was the responsibility of senior politicians to set an example of respectful disagreement with their opponents so that young political activists across party lines could follow their lead.
