Berhampur: A man allegedly killled his mother by injecting cobra venom in her person for not agreeing to sale her property at Brahmanagar in Ganjam district, police said today. Jayanti Patnaik (67), a widow, was forcibly administered the venom by her son Biswajit Patnaik along with three others including a women as she refused to sale her house to meet her son`s debt, Superintendent of Police Shefeen Ahmed said.

Ailing Jayanti rushed to her neighbour`s place and narrated the incident. After informed by the neighbour, her another son Satyajit took her to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here, but she died a few hours after admission on March 26. All four including a quack were arrested and a syringe and carcass of a Cobra seized today. Biswajit, who ran an eatery and was staying separately from his mother and two brothers, was neck-deep in debt. He wanted to sell his paternal house to which his mother was not agreeable, Ahmed said.

In his attempt to clear the hurdle, he sought the help of a woman from whom he had borrowed Rs four lakh and the quack Trinath Behera, who is also a snake-charmer, and planned the crime. The post-mortem report also pointed out that the death was due to poison, the SP said.
