Cuttack: A 30-year-old man was awarded life imprisonment by a local court for killing his father in 2009.

District and Sessions judge, Cuttack, Shatrughna Pujari found Arjun Bhoi of Jagatpur near the city here guilty for killing his father Babaji Bhoi with a crowbar after examining as many as ten witnesses. The judge while pronouncing the judgement on Wednesday also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

The prosecution says that Arjun, who stayed with his father in their house, always picked up quarrel with Babaji over parental property disputes. Arjun was also nurturing a grudge on his younger brother Bhima, who used to stay at a separate place with his mother.

On February 21, 2009 some villagers stumbled upon the body of Babaji lying in a pool of blood in a nearby paddy field with severe head injuries. On being informed, Bhima rushed to the spot and found his father`s body.

Later he filed an FIR with the police alleging that his elder brother Arjun had killed his father. Subsequently, police arrested Arjun and seized the blood-stained crowbar used in the murder.
