Kanshiram Nagar (UP): Uttar Pradesh would have been a leading state in terms of progress if the previous Mayawati government had properly spent central funds on development, PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav said on Sunday.

"If the BSP government had utilised funds received from the Centre properly, UP could have become number one state in the country," Yadav said at a function at Sankatmochan dham at Sailai.

He held the alleged corruption in the previous BSP rule responsible for the deplorable condition of the state. The Samajwadi Party government would try to sort out all the problems being faced by the state, he said.
