Ghaziabad: Continuing crackdown on carrying cash in adherence to the Election Commission directives, police have seized over Rs 60 lakh from different places across the district, taking the total to Rs 2.25 crore since the operation was launched on Thursday.

In yesterday`s seizures, Rs 12 lakhs were recovered from a car, out of which Rs 4 lakh was found to be unaccounted, officials said. Similarly, sums of Rs 30 lakh and Rs 10 lakh were seized from a car and two bike-borne persons in Muradnagar and Indira Puram areas, police said.

Meanwhile, SP (City) J K Shahi has said the raids will continue as per the EC directives. He further said income tax officials are probing sources of the cash recovered and unaccounted money will be seized. The total amount seized now stands at a whopping Rs 2.25 crore since the crackdown began Thursday, when the police had recovered over Rs 1.5 crore in similar raids.
