Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police on Tuesday arrested Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena arrested from Brahmagiri in Puri.

According to police sources, Jena was arrested in connection with Chandrama apartment firing case for criminal activities including terrorising people and attacking police.

Jena is a member of the state assembly from the Sanakhemundi assembly constituency in the southern Ganjam district. He is currently out on conditional bail in a murder case.
Protesting the arrest, Jena`s supporters blocked roads and burnt tyres at Berhampur, a leading town in Ganjam district.

"Jena is the main accused in an incident that took place in an apartment at Bhubaneswar Feb 1 when criminals were apprehended," Police Commissioner B.K. Sharm said.

Earlier, the police had raided Jena’s flat  in Bhubaneswar and arrested eight criminals who even opened fire on the police team. Jena said the action against him was politically motivated.
