The Congress party in Odisha has threatened not to allow Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra enter the State Assembly during the upcoming winter session scheduled to commence on December 1.
Mishra is in the eye of storm for his alleged close proximity with Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the sensational Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case.
Congress MLA from Kantabanji, Santosh Singh Saluja said, “We will urge Speaker Surya Narayan Patro and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik not to allow the Minister into the House against whom there are direct allegations of murder and sex scandal. Mamita Meher’s parents have levelled direct allegations against him. If such a person enters the House, it will become impure and the dignity of the Assembly will be destroyed.”
Supporting the stand, Jatani MLA Suresh Routray said since there are allegations of involvement of the Minister in Mamita Meher murder case, he would not be allowed to enter the sacred House.
“As there are allegations in Odisha as well as across the country about the involvement of the Minister in the case, it would not be appropriate for him to enter the Assembly during the forthcoming winter session,” Routray said.
Reacting to the allegations of the Congress party, BJD MLA Aswini Patra said, “Unless the allegations against the Minister are established, no one has the rights to disallow an elected representative into the Assembly in a democratic set up. If there is an actual involvement of the Minister, inquiry will find it out and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will take the call as Home department belongs to him.”
It is worth mentioning here that the Winter Session of the State Legislative Assembly will commence on December 1 and continue till December 31 with a total of 26 working days.
