A youth Congress worker allegedly hurled tomatoes during Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi’s ‘padyatra’ to Srimandir in Puri on Wednesday.
As per reports, the youth hurled tomatoes at the gathering near Srimandir office and immediately ran away from the spot.
Sarangi, who visited Puri today, opted to have darshan of the Trinity by walking on foot after she was obstructed near Patapola at Chandanpur by the district administration.
“No permission is required for darshan of Mahaprabhu Jagannath. If the Odisha government is on right path, why is it so afraid?” Sarangi questioned.
“Everybody should abide by law. If the district administration has not given permission for the padyatra, it has some purpose behind it. It should have been respected,” said Khan.
“There are certain rules and regulations for organising rallies. Lord Jagannath’s darshan is not forbidden. But one should understand that public demonstration can trigger law and order problem in the pilgrim city,” said Khan.
Throwing his weight behind Puri heritage corridor project, the BJD leader said that no illegal construction activity has been undertaken near Srimandir.
“The State government has undertaken various developmental activities around Srimandir for convenience of devotees. Opposing developmental activities on the pretext of trivial things is not acceptable. The Opposition shouldn’t politicise the issue for narrow motive,” added Khan.
