Senior Congress leader and former MLA Prafulla Majhi has been expelled from the party for unruly behavior and anti-party activities, informed the media co-ordinator of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), Deepak Mohapatra, on Monday.

The move by the party came just after the three-time legislator said he will leave the party and make an announcement regarding the same by organising a press conference today.

Even after supporting Congress since the last 60 year, the party has neglected me and I have been sidelined, alleged Majhi.

“There are many issues. I cannot explain what torture I am going through since my defeat in 2019. I have been neglected despite being a senior leader and this has left me hurt,” Majhi said.

“I will put down my papers today and there is no chance to work for the party again,” he added.

Majhi stepped into politics in 2006. He contested a bye-election from Talsara Assembly Constituency in Sundargarh district and registered victory.

He was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly on Congress ticket for two consecutive periods in 2009 and 2014.
However in 2019 elections, Majhi was defeated by BJP candidate Bhabani Shankar Bhoi.
