Around 41 lakh beneficiaries of the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme in Odisha will receive the next installment of financial assistance on the occasion of Nuakhai.
Under the scheme, each farmer will receive Rs 2,000. The amount will be credited to the farmers' bank accounts directly through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
The Odisha government had earlier announced that the eligible farmers will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,000 twice a year during the next three years on the occasions of Akshaya Tritiya and Nuakhai.
Subsequently, Odisha farmers had received financial assistance under the KALIA scheme on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya in May.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had then said that the fund was deposited in the bank account of around 40 lakh small and marginal farmers of all districts except Jharsuguda where the model code of conduct was in force in view of by-poll to Brajrajngar Assembly seat.
Stating development of agriculture and farmers' welfare as the most important programmes of his government, the CM had also said a budgetary provision of Rs 20,000 crore was made for this sector in this financial year.
