After a dismal performance in the recent Panchayat and Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, the Odisha unit of BJP has now reset its target of Mission 120 for the general elections scheduled to be held in 2024.
Speaking to media, State BJP president Samir Mohanty on Sunday said, “We have begun groundwork to come up with different strategies to achieve our Mission 120. People of Odisha have entrusted us with the work of Opposition party and we are fulfilling our responsibilities with full dedication.”
“As part of the mission 120, we will bring the ‘copy and paste’ approach of the ruling BJD government to the notice of the people,” the saffron party leader said during his visit to Haridaspur village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had won 95 of 108 municipalities in the Odisha ULB polls while the Opposition BJP and Congress remained in second and third position with 16 and seven seats respectively in their pockets. The independents won nine seats in the polls.
Similarly in Panchayat Polls, out of the total 851 Zilla Parishad zones, the BJD had won a record number of 766 leaving the Opposition parties far behind. The BJP came a distant second by winning only 42 seats while Congress had to contend for the third position with victory in 37 seats.
