The Odisha Legislative Assembly on Saturday witnessed chaos as BJD and Congress legislators stormed into the well of the House, raising slogans over OBC and STSC reservations.

The Odisha Legislative Assembly on Saturday witnessed pandemonium with the legislators of Opposition BJD and Congress storming into the well of the House raising slogans over the OBC, ST/SC reservation issue. 

During Zero Hour, the members of the BJD and Congress rushed to the Speaker’s podium and created chaos, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 4 pm. 

At the beginning of the Zero Hour, the members of Congress created uproar over the reservation issue, throwing leaflets. Later, the BJD members too joined and raised slogans. 

“OBC and ST/SC candidates are not getting seats in medical and engineering colleges. Our reservation quota should be given to us,” said Rama Chandra Kadam, a Congress MLA.

Similarly, BJD said like in jobs, 11.25 per cent reservation in the education sector should also be given to OBCs or else the OBC students would hit the street in the coming days. 

“Our demand is that the government should implement an 11.25 per cent reservation for OBC students in the education sector,” said Arun Sahoo, BJD MLA. 

Responding to the demand of the BJD and Congress, BJP MLA Tankadhara Tripathy said, “They who never thought of OBCs in the last 24 years are speaking about their reservation today. They had chopped off the palms of tribal people in Kalinganagar. They had brought a proposal to take possession of tribal people’s lands. They are now speaking about tribal reservation.”

In another development, government chief whip Saroj Pradhan brought a censure motion in connection with the disrespect to the speaker and it was also adopted through a voice vote.
