The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence on Friday and will continue till March 31.
Governor Ganeshi Lal will address the House on the first business day of the session. It will witness a total of six business days, excluding a holiday.
The House will discuss on the Governor’s speech for two days—March 26 and 28. The next day, official business will be tabled, and, on March 30, Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will present the budget.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 test of all those who will take part in the session, including the Speaker, have been conducted.
This six-day-long session is likely to uproarious given the Oppositions Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have several issues to corner the ruling BJD.
While the BJP has issues like Cameraman Manas Swain murder case, poll violence and atrocities against women to launch all out attack on the BJD, the Congress has issues like unemployment problem as well as poll violence in its armoury to fire at the ruling dispensation.
“The main accused in cameraman Manas Swain murder case, Sarmistha Rout is still out of police’s reach. Ministers Pratap Jena and Dibya Shankar Mishra are involved in the case. As the main Opposition party, the BJP will corner the government on this issue,” said Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi.
“We will raise issues like poll violence, deplorable law and order situation, price hike, fuel price hike and farmers’ sufferings,” said senior Congress leader and Bolangir MLA Narasingha Mishra.
On the other hand, the ruling BJD said they are well prepared to face the Opposition attack.
“The duration of the session is very limited. During this, all members will be busy with the usual business activities. There will also be question hour discussion and adjournment discussion. And we are ready for that,” said Law Minister Pratap Jena.
