A day before the last date for filing of the nominations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named actor-turned-politician Sritam Das as the party’s Mayor candidate for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC). The announcement was made by Cuttack Nagar BJP president Lalatendu Badu.
Senior Congress leader Giribala Behera is the Mayor candidate for the party for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections.
“I am really surprised as I had no idea about this. People of Cuttack love me and this will help me to serve and resolve their grievances. Since 2001, I have been working in the social sector. During Covid-19 pandemic, I was also on the ground and tried my best to help people,” said Das.
Das said that he is associated with the BJP for the last 10 years. “My only aim is to address the issues of the millennium city,” he said.
Earlier, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had named Rajya Sabha MP Subash Chandra Singh as the party’s nominee for the post in Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
