Mamita Murder Case: Police Lathi Charge BJYM Workers During Rally In Bhubaneswar

The protest turned violent after the saffron party activists tried to make forced entry by breaking the police cordon.

Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists took to the streets of Odisha's Capital city of Bhubaneswar on Thursday to gherao the State Assembly demanding the removal of Minister of State (MoS) for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra from the State cabinet over his alleged involvement in the lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case.

Taking out a massive rally from the State BJP headquarters, the BJYM workers marched towards the Assembly shouting slogans against the BJD and its supremo Naveen Patnaik and Minister Mishra.

However, they were stopped at the lower PMG by the police following which they staged a seat-in after breaking the barricades in front of the Assembly building. However, later the protest turned violent after the saffron party activists tried to make forced entry by breaking the police cordon.

According to reports, when the police intervened and picked up the protesters to avoid any untoward incident, the BJYM worker scuffled with the police.  

Later the police resorted to lathi-charge the BJYM activists who continued the rally near lower PMG.

Meanwhile,  till the last reports came in, some of the saffron party youth wing leaders have been taken into preventive custody following the scuffle.
