'I am not in BJD anymore', says ex-MLA Amar Satpathy days after targetting Naveen Patnaik

The internal conflict within the BJD escalates as former MLA Amar Satpathy distances himself from the party, criticising supremo Naveen Patnaik over the 2024 Assembly poll loss. Despite his disassociation, Satpathy remains in political discussions, including with BJP. BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty suggests it is better for Satpathy to formally exit the party.

The infighting within the BJD is showing no sign of dying down. After training guns at party supremo Naveen Patnaik over the 2024 Assemble poll debacle, former MLA Amar Satpathy further heated up the political corridor on Monday by saying that he is no longer associated with the conch party.

The statement from the former BJD leader and minister came a couple of days after he targeted BJD President Naveen Patnaik and said the latter should accept the responsibility for the party's defeat.

“I am no longer associated with the BJD. I am a kind of independent as I have not taken the membership of party during its membership drive. Many political parties including BJP are in talks with me. However, I am not in active politics,” Satpathy said.

Commenting on Satpathy’s remark, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said it would be better if he could leave the party.

“If he (Satpathy) does not want to be with BJD, it would be better to leave the party. His nephew is already in the BJP. If he wants to follow the footprints of his nephew, it would be better,” Mohanty said.

“The party (BJD) gave him chances to hold key positions for six times. But he failed to come up with new and young faces. If he feels suffocated in the party, it would be better for him to snap ties with BJD,” he added.

BJD is not going to be affected in any way by those who are leaving the party and joining the saffron party, Mohanty added.
