Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday targeted the ruling BJD government over the abolishment of the contractual recruitment system in the State.
Launching a scathing attack on the State government, Pradhan said the ruling BJD should release a white paper to make it clear how many posts are lying vacant in the Health and Education departments and how many aspirants will be recruited.
He further added, “Why the State government didn’t appoint employees on a regular employment mode initially, despite having many vacancies in multiple departments which have led to unnecessary inconveniences”.
However, Cuttack Mayor and BJD leader Subash Singh has termed the State government's decision historic.
“Regularisation of contractual employees is a historic decision taken by the CM Naveen Patnaik, it is a big step to invest 1300 crore rupees annually for uplifting youths working on a non-permanent basis,” Singh said.
Upon being asked about the outsourcing of employees, Singh said, “That issue will be addressed soon. But, let us appreciate this first initiative by the government.”
Recently the Odisha government made an announcement to regularise more than 57,000 contractual employees at an expense of staggering 1300 crore rupees per annum to support this employment drive.
