Congress workers led by senior party leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati gheraoed Jeypore Town Police Station on Sunday over alleged deteriorating law and order situation. Later, the activists staged a road blockade near Jeypore town along National Highway No.26 to draw the attention of the district administration.
Kartik Nag, a youth from Gopabandhu Nagar area in the town, was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by some miscreants. Later, he was rescued near Kumuliputa area in a critical condition. Initially Nag was admitted to Jeypore medical and was later shifted to Koraput Medical College as his condition deteriorated.
Nag’s sister registered an FIR at Jeypore Town Police Station in this regard. Though a case was registered based on the complaint and an investigation launched, no one has been arrested in this connection so far.
“Police are well aware about the perpetrators of the crime. But they are unable to arrest anyone due to the pressure from the ruling party. The assault on Nag speaks volumes about the deteriorating law and order situation in Jeypore,” said Bahinipati.
“The criminals are roaming scot free in the town due to lackadaisical attitude of the district administration and police. We demand urgent intervention by the State government to arrest the criminals. Otherwise, we will intensify our protests in coming days,” said the senior party leader.
