The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on its course to register a massive win in the Municipal Board Elections in Assam. Party’s National Vice President and state in-charge Baijayant Jay Panda has hailed the achievement.
As per reports, the counting of votes which were polled at 977 wards in 80 Municipalities of Assam, is presently underway. Latest trends from the Election Commission suggest that candidates of the saffron party are leading in 548 Wards. While the Congress is ahead in 61 Wards, candidates from other parties altogether are in front in 125 Wards.
For the first time in the history of Assam, electronic voting machines (EVM) were used instead of ballot paper for the civic elections.
Meanwhile, BJP’s National VP Panda hailed the magnificent show by the party candidates in the election. Taking to Twitter, Panda wrote that results of Assam Urban Local Body elections will be a strong endorsement of the public’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's zeal to develop the northeast under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa.
It is pertinent to mention here that Panda played an important part in the state Assembly Elections in 2021 and ensured the BJP's victory.
Julie Bezbaruah, a journalist from Guwahati, explained that the early result trends clearly indicate people’s inclination towards BJP which was also reflected in the last general elections. The party had also campaigned extensively under the leadership of Jay Panda and Himanta Biswa with an agenda of development, said Bezbaruah.
