The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators staged a walkout during a meeting of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday. Alleging partiality, they said their queries were intentionally ignored during the budget presentation.

The corporation meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Sulochana Das at the new BMC building. The meeting was attended by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner and all corporators.

While the budget for the year 2023-24 was being presented, the BJP corporators staged a walkout alleging their questions were continuously being ignored.

Later they staged a sit-in at the office.

They further alleged that the corporators of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) were not allowing them to raise any issue during the meeting.

The agitating BJP corporators also protested over Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi not being invited to the new building’s inaugural function. Taking a swipe at the Mayor, the agitating corporators wanted to know why the MP was forgotten when all the MLAs were invited to the event.
