Blaming the Union government for the surge in prices of fuel, essential commodities and rising unemployment, thousands of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers took out a motorcycle rally in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
The party activists rode motorcycles from the BJD office to the agitation venue as a mark of protest against the spiraling rise in the prices of fuel, surge in prices of essential commodities and rise in unemployment among the youth across the country.
The party activists raised slogans against the Union government during the march which was led by party’s Organisational Secretary Pranab Prakash Das, Yuva BJD General Secretary Pranab Balabantaray and Chhatra BJD President Devi Ranjan Tripathy.
“The Union government has betrayed people by making several false promises. People are going through hard times due to surge in prices of fuel and essential commodities because of the faulty policy of the Centre. Rise in unemployment cases among the youth has also added to the woes of the common men,” said BJD leader Snehangini Chhuria.
“The Central government should take immediate steps to bring down prices of fuel and essential commodities. Otherwise, BJD will intensify the protests in coming days,” warned Chhuria.
Meanwhile, BJP said that the protest by BJD is an act of desperation to divert the attention of the people from the involvement of their leaders in different criminal cases and several irregularities.
“Several leaders of BJD are involved in criminal cases. They have staged the protest to divert the attention of people and save their faces,” said BJP spokesperson Biranchi Tripathy.
