BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday accused the Opposition parties of spreading lies about the ruling dispensation in the State during the Panchayat elections which concluded recently.

"To tarnish the image of my party, they (Opposition parties) spread lies and did negative politics. But the people of Odisha didn't pay heed to their false propaganda," said the BJD president.

Patnaik sought to caution the party workers about the possibilities of similar smear campaign by the Opposition during the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections and said, "We will expose the lies of the Opposition before the people. And, this is a responsibility of every party worker."

While stating that the BJD believes in ‘positive politics’ the supremo said, “Our hallmark is transformative governance and people's empowerment."

Speaking on the party's strategy for the ULB polls, Patnaik said several developmental works have taken place in the urban areas of the State and Odisha's Jaga Mission (land for the poor) has set global benchmarks in the empowerment of the urban poor with land rights.

From streetlights to indoor stadiums, and from drinking water to modern waste management systems, the ruling party has touched all sections for the welfare and empowerment of people in urban areas, maintained the BJD president.

"We have to reach out to people with all these initiatives and highlight those to tackle the lies and negative politics of the Opposition parties. I firmly believe that the way you had worked during the rural polls, you will work even harder during the urban polls. And, we will show the Opposition parties that politics of lies and deception won’t work in Odisha," he said.
