Oppn to hot up Budget Session 2nd phase

At a meeting of BJP Parliamentary Party Executive Committee here, it was decided to flag the statement of Chief Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu that major economic reforms in India are unlikely to happen before the next Parliamentary elections in 2014 and demand a discussion on the state of economic policy.

The party leaders also decided to raise the issue of Naxalism against the backdrop of kidnapping of Sukhma Collector Alex Paul Menon in Chhattisgarh, sources said. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir will also be taken by the Opposition.

Discussions on Centre-State relations and unemployment are already pending in the Lok Sabha. The sources said the issue of NCTC may not come up as a meeting of state Chief Ministers on the subject is due on May 5.

The BJP has already stated that it would support the Pension Fund Regulatory Development Authority Bill following indications from the government that some of the amendments suggested by it have been accepted.

While the demands for grants of the Union ministries of Home, Health, Commerce and Urban Development will come up for discussion in the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha will discuss the working of Civil Aviation, Coal, Defence and Labour and Employment ministries.

The sources said during discussions on Coal, Defence and Civil Aviation in particular, the BJP will try to corner the government on various aspects.
