The Sturgeon Moon – last supermoon of 2022 will finally be visible this week on the auspicious occasion of Happy Raksha Bandhan in India and around the world. After multiple Lunar Eclipses this year, people can will get to witness the supermoon in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to NASA, the supermoon will appear at around 9:36pm or 6:36pm PT or during the early hours of August 12 around 1:30am. EDT.
While many view supermoons as a beautiful delight to watch, most Indians view it from an astrological point of view. While there was four supermoons this year, the last one of 2022 will appear this week.
Known as sturgeon moon, the event is a perfect excuse to step outside to enjoy the celestial show.
During this hours, the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun. They are bright, illuminated, brighter and closer than the usual full moons. The moon orbiting around Earth in an elliptical or oval-shaped manner is the main reason behind supermoons.
This shows that the distance between Earth and Moon varies over time. The moon will be at the closest point to Earth, commonly known as Perigee. So, the full moon of August is known as Sturgeon Moon as the moon appears bigger and brighter than usual.
The Supermoon will be visible via a livestream done by the Virtual Telescope Project in Ceccano, Italy on August 12, 1:30am. EDT (0530 GMT).
