A picture of a fungus looking exactly like a dead man’s finger has left the internet scared. The picture, shared by Indian Forest officer Samrat Gowda, has left Twitterati in shock.
Many are terming it as ‘Bhoot’. The bluish-grey-coloured fungus with blackened ends has been identified as Xylaria polymorpha.
However, it looks exactly like a dead man’s fingers. At the first glance, anyone can mistake it for a corpse’s leg fingers.
Sharing the weird picture, Gowda first tried to test the knowledge of his followers and questioned, “Can you guess what is this???”
After being shared on Twitter, the post for obvious reasons grabbed a lot of eyeballs. With 217.6K views, 1319 likes and counting, the post was flooded with a plethora of hilarious yet scary reactions from social media users.
“I think they are Tabu’s legs from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” a user commented while another user wrote, “This thing is freaking scary. If I see it in real, I will start running in the opposite direction, probably faster than Usain Bolt.”
A third user commented, “It’s a kind of mushroom. This thing freaked the hell out of me the first time I came across it. Still Freaky!”
The IFS officer later clarified that it was a fungus. In another tweet, he wrote, “This is Xylaria polymorpha, a fungus commonly known as dead man’s finger.
This fungus usually grows at the base of beechwood stumps and buried hardwoods. It is called the ‘dead man’s finger’ for its strange appearance.
