A routine visit to the doctor turned into tragedy for Rajesh Behera of Kharoda village in Badamba. Suffering from fever, Rajesh had visited the Badamba CHC, where the attending doctor prescribed an injection as part of the treatment.
According to the family, moments after a nurse administered the injection, Rajesh’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite efforts, he succumbed, prompting allegations of medical negligence.
Tension at Medical Facility
News of the death triggered tension in the medical campus, with relatives and locals demanding strict action against those responsible. Many alleged that the injection may have been wrongly administered or of substandard quality.
Police Investigation Underway
Based on the complaint lodged by the family, Badamba police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of death and whether negligence was involved. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the medical cause.
"His name is Rajesh Behera, he was suffering from fever, for that reason we had visited the medical. After reaching he took him inside as told me to wait here. He said I am going showing his condition to the doctor. The doctor said he will require taking 2 injections and after the interaction with doctor, he said I am going to buy 2 injections. Then I left and after 5 to 10 minutes, doctors said he is dead. The doctor has given wrong injection," Sangram Behera, his brother.
Medical Authorities Yet to Respond
While the incident has stirred public anger, Badamba medical authorities have not issued any official statement so far. Locals have urged the health department to ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The incident has reignited concerns over medical safety standards in rural healthcare facilities.
