A youth has gone missing after reportedly jumping into river Mahanadi from the Mundali bridge in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The youth has been identified as Hemant Sahu, a resident of Bolagarh area in Khordha district. He had been staying in Cuttack’s CDA area for several years and was engaged in incense stick business.
The incident came to light late on Friday night after he sent a voice message to his wife on WhatsApp stating his intention to end his life.
Following the message, family members made repeated attempts to contact him, but his phone was reportedly found switched off. On receiving information, police from Godisahi Police Outpost reached the spot and seized his vehicle parked near the bridge. Search operations were launched suspecting that he had jumped into the river, but his whereabouts remains unknown.
‘Loan Burden And Family Tension May Have Triggered Incident’
Speaking about the possible reason behind the incident, Hemant’s uncle said, “He had an argument with his wife. The dispute arose because my nephew had taken out personal loans but was neither repaying them nor engaged in any work or business. After the argument, he left home, and around 11:00 pm, he sent a message saying, ‘I don’t want to live anymore. Everyone is criticising me because I can’t repay the loans, so I’m jumping into the river.’”
Till the last report came in, search operation was underway to trace Sahu.
