A youth lost his life after being crushed under the wheels of a chariot during Rath Yatra celebrations in Shikula village under Purushottampur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Shibaram Behera. 

According to reports, Shibaram accidentally slipped and fell under the chariot wheel while it was being pulled during the procession. He sustained critical injuries in the incident.

He was initially rushed to Purushottampur Medical Centre for emergency treatment. After receiving primary care, he was referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village. Police investigation is reportedly underway.

In a separate incident, a minor boy lost his life after a DJ vehicle overturned in Anaharapur village under Dhamnagar block of Bhadrak district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as 14-year-old Soumyaranjan Raut. According to eyewitnesses, the mishap occurred when the DJ vehicle lost balance while moving on an uneven stretch of road and overturned, crushing the boy beneath it.
