Youth brandishes knife in front of judge in Berhampur court, detained

A man has been detained by Baidyanathpur police for allegedly brandishing a knife at a judge during a hearing at Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in Berhampur on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Bhagban Sahoo, a native of Old Berhampur area.

According to sources, Sahoo appeared for court proceedings in an inebriated condition and suddenly started brandishing the knife at the judge while the court proceedings were underway.

However, some of the lawyers managed to capture Sahoo and alerted the police. police immediately overpowered Sahoo and took him to the police station for further inquiry.

According to Berhampur SP Sravana Vivek M, a case has been filed in this regard. The SP also stated that the knife he used in the incident has been seized.

The 52-year-old man is a defendant in four cases, the senior cop said. He also added that steps would be taken to tighten the courtroom's security.
