In a disturbing incident, a youth was allegedly brutally assaulted by police after being forcibly taken from his home in the Kaliapani area of Jajpur district. The victim has been identified as Siddhanta Behera, a resident of Ransol village.
Following the alleged assault, Siddhanta was first treated at Sukinda Community Health Centre and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care.
According to Siddhanta's family, the police forcibly picked him up without any prior notice or warrant, and subjected him to inhumane treatment. They claimed no formal complaint or explanation was presented at the time of his detention.
Siddhanta is reportedly associated with the Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) social media wing in the Ransol panchayat. In protest, local BJD workers, led by party leader Pritiranjan Gharai, met with the Jajpur Superintendent of Police (SP), demanding immediate action against the officers involved.
The victim stated, “The police took me while I was sleeping at home. The IIC asked why I uploaded his photo on social media. But I didn’t upload anything. I just want justice.”
