At a time when speculations are rife over the frequent assembly of young leaders of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), sparking debate over possible power struggle or infighting, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray on Friday made some explosive remarks.
Samantaray underscored the importance and potential of the youth in shaping the direction of the party.
Commenting about one such gathering at his residence, Samantaray asserted, "It is the youth who will lead the party in the future."
Emphasising the need for this generational change, the senior BJD leader said, “I think that the youths can take the party further. Whether they win or lose, they have come a long way after getting votes from the public. The spirit of these youths is high and I think that the BJD will grow if this generation takes over. There were some leaders with me who were MLAs together and subsequently, some of them lost the polls. Now after losing the election, we got time to get united after a long time,” said Samantaray.
To a question whether the new generation of leaders take over the reins of BJD, Samantaray said that this would certainly align with the vision set forth by the party president Naveen Patnaik.
Samantaray also cautioned that some leaders that they will get all soon after joining the party.
"It is not right to assume that joining the party today will make one the ultimate authority tomorrow," he warned adding that the upcoming generation will come forth, and no one can stop them.
