BJD Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray has expressed his disagreement with the party’s decision to suspend senior leader Prafulla Mallik, calling it a wrong move that could harm the party.
Speaking to the media, Samantaray said that Mallik is a senior leader who has contributed significantly to the Biju Janata Dal over the years. He warned that sidelining experienced leaders like Mallik and others, including veteran Bhaskar Rao, could lead to further departures and cause substantial damage to the party.
The suspension of senior leaders like Prafulla Mallik is a wrong decision. Leaders of such stature have worked tirelessly for the BJD, and the party must handle grievances carefully to prevent loss of credibility and talent, Samantaray said.
“Naveen Patnaik also suffered defeat in the election. So suffering a defeat in the poll does not mean anything. Bhaskar Rao is a leader from the undivided Koraput. He is a senior leader and has regretted for speaking against the party publicly,” said Samantaray.
Meanwhile, BJD MLA Pramila Mallik said that while leaders are free to express opinions, resorting to public statements against the party is unfortunate. She emphasised that internal disputes should be resolved through proper party mechanisms rather than through public criticism.
“Why is he unsatisfied you ask him. Whatever decision the Party president has taken is right. If action is not taken, then indiscipline will increase within the party,” Mallik said.
