Woman, youth who ‘jumped’ from Trisulia bridge found alive; mystery shrouds entire episode

After sending the entire rescue team into a tizzy following an alleged ‘suicide bid’ from Trisulia bridge in Cuttack, both the woman and youth were traced and found to be alive on Saturday. Mystery now shrouds over the entire incident as it has been learnt that both the woman and the youth were relatives and knew each other.

On Friday, it was alleged that the woman and her brother-in-law went missing after jumping off Trisulia Bridge into the Kathajodi River in Cuttack. The motive behind the incident was unclear even though their Aadhaar cards, mobile phones and shoes were recovered from the spot.

After both of them voluntarily appeared before the Purighat police station, they were immediately sent to the hospital for medical examination. Sources said that they have claimed to have been stranded in the river the whole night.

A fire officer said, “After getting information that two persons had jumped into Kathajodi river, we had launched a rescue operation yesterday and even during morning hours today. Even though they claimed that they had washed to the shore today morning, it is hard to imagine that someone could withstand the current in the river.”

The officer said as floodwater is now flowing in Kathajodi River with a strong current, it is not possible for anyone to be in the river throughout the night.

“If they were stuck on some island or they had fallen from the side of the bridge, it will be ascertained only after speaking with both the persons. Whether they were planning to misguide by placing their Aadhaar cards and other articles will be ascertained only after an investigation,” the officer added.

Meanwhile, senior police officials have started an investigation to ascertain the exact motive and truth behind the entire incident.
