A woman was allegedly attacked and an attempt was made to rape her while she was returning home after grazing goats in the Raghunathpur area of Jagatsinghpur district. The incident took place on Wednesday evening.

As per the complaint, the accused picked the woman up and took her to a forest area, and attempted to sexually assault her. The woman stated that she screamed for help, prompting her relatives and locals to arrive at the spot, which led to the accused fleeing.

The victim, in a critical state, was reportedly bleeding then. Locals rescued her and took her to a nearby medical facility. A formal complaint was lodged with Raghunathpur Police following the incident.

Family Raises Concerns Over Police Response

The woman’s husband said, “When I found out about what had happened, I immediately took my wife to the hospital and then to the Raghunathpur Police Station to file an FIR. After that, when I asked the police personnel how we would return, the official there instructed us to return the same way we had arrived at the station. By then, all my relatives had returned, so we could not ask for anyone's help and started walking back to our home. On the way, my wife suddenly lost consciousness and fell on the road. Luckily, passers-by helped us get back to the hospital for treatment.”

No Police Statement Yet

While questions have been raised over how police allowed the victim to return late at night without secure transport, no official reaction has been received from the police so far.
