A woman at Titilagarh in Bolangir allegedly sold her two-and-a-half-year-old son to a man at Rs 10,000.
The incident came to the fore after the father of the child, Akhaya Putel, approached the Titilagarh Police Station to lodge a complaint. However, the police allegedly did not accept his complaint.
As per the reports, Putel and his wife Manashi Bag have been living separately. However, their child was staying with the father.
Putel alleged, Manashi took the child on the pretext of outing and sold him to a man at Lanjigarh.
"My wife has sold my child to somebody in Lanjigarh for Rs 10,000. Despite my complaint at Titilagarh police station, the police are not accepting the same and delaying the investigation,” said Putel.
However, Manashi refuted his allegations and said, “We (Putel & Manashi) had quarrel and got separated. He ousted me from his home but wanted to keep my child with him. So, I took the child and handed it to another family to take care of him. But I never sold my child.”
Failing to file a complaint, Putel sought the help of a social activist Anjali Behera who spoke with Manashi and persuaded her to bring back their child.
“The child’s father came to me and urged me to help him get back his son. I confronted Manashi and counselled her after which she has agreed to bring back the child and hand him over to Akhaya, her husband,” said Behera.
