Being a BSF soldier, Diptimayee Tarai of Ora village under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district protects the country’s border. But these days, she has been on a mission to create awareness among people to keep the Ganga clean.
She is a member of a 20-member team of women from the BSF that has sailed out to raft about 2500 kilometers from Gangotri in Uttarakhand, the source of the Ganga, to Gangasagar in West Bengal.
Their arduous expedition started on November 2 and it, as they expect, will end on December 24.
From Gangotri, Diptimayee released a video message in which she tells Odisha people about her voyage.
“For the first time, it is an all-women BSF personnel on an expedition named All Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition 2024. While the team comprises 20 members, we are six from Odisha. It’s a joint effort of BSF and National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). Its objectives are women empowerment, a prosperous nation and swachh Ganga jeevan bardan. I feel proud for devoting myself to serving my motherland,” she said.
