In what could be termed as an interesting development, senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra was seen putting up his questions in Koshali language and Minister Pratap Deb replying in the same language during the Question Hour of the ongoing winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Friday.
When the question-answer session of the Industry department was underway, Congress leader Mishra raised a question on setting up of industries in Bolangir district. He asked the question in Koshali language.
Taking all by surprise, Minister Pratap Deb gave his answer in Koshali language as well.
Besides, Mishra, Rairakhol MLA Rohit Pujari was seen asking a question in Koshali language, and BJP MLA Naba Majhi was also seen speaking in Santali language.
Meanwhile, the leaders interacting in Koshali language has given rise to discussions in the political corridors. It has been discussed that they have had a hidden agenda of wooing voters.
It is worth mentioning that at the outset, Mishra had sought permission to speak in Koshali language. However, his request was turned down citing that there was no reporter in the House to record the language. Despite this, he was seen asking questions in Koshali language.
The recent issue of actor Manoj Mishra added fuel to the demand for the formation of a new Koshal state. Even Mishra had stated about the division of the state.
Addressing the reporters, Mishra said, "Though I started it, I was not the only one who spoke in Koshali language. BJP leaders and Minister too spoke in Koshali. This has noting to do with votes.As per the House Rules Of Business, we have rights to speak in our mother tongue."
Supporting Mishra, BJP leader Naba Majhi said, "If a member is unable to speak fluent Odia, then the House should appoint an interpreter who would translate Koshali into Odia for the convenience of other MLAs.When other members can speak in Koshali, why can't I speak in Santali," asked Naba Majhi.
In addition, the Congress leader also raised the issue of opening of four gates of Srimandir in the House.
“Since only one of the four gates of Srimandir is open, devotees are facing problems. While standing in queue, devotees are getting tired and even collapsing. There is no seating arrangement for them. If all the gates are opened, devotees can enter the shrine and have darshan of the deities without any difficulties. Not only devotees but also the Governor of Chhattisgarh has raised the issue,” Mishra said.
