Former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang has fuelled the speculation of quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after meeting Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The veteran politician and nine-time MP from Koraput district, who quit the Congress party and joined BJP in 2015, along with his son Shishir Gamang called on K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday.
It is speculated that both Giridhar Gamanaga and his son might join Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the national party formed by K Chandrasekhar Rao.
“Former Odisha Chief Minister, senior Parliamentarian, national leader Sri Giridhar Gamang paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Sri K Chandrashekar Rao at Pragati Bhavan today. Sri Shishir Gamang, son of Giridhar Gamang, and others were present at the meeting,” tweeted Telangana CMO on January 13.
In his reaction to OTV, Giridhar Gamang’s son Shishir said they have got an offer to join the BRS and take lead of the party in Odisha. However, both of them are very much in BJP and have not decided anything regarding the offer.
“K Chandrasekhar Rao is a very good friend of my father and he had called us to share his views and vision on his newly-formed national party BRS. K Chandrasekhar Rao is of the view that if a senior leader like my father joins BRS, it will help their party’s prospects in Odisha,” said Shishir.
Shishir further clarified that, “It is only a first meeting. We are very much in BJP. We have only got an offer and have not taken any decision and not communicated our views also.”
