Odisha unit of BJP strongly criticised the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday for participating in a meeting against delimitation of constituencies held yesterday in Chennai.
Harichandan pointed out that for nearly eight years, the previous government followed the directives of a South Indian, and now they intend to align with another South Indian leader.
The Law Minister emphasised that delimitation is a democratic process, and Opposition parties should express their stance rather than fearing it unnecessarily.

Wait For Notification: BJP
"Some people are unnecessarily creating political issues. They should wait till the notification is issued, and after that, they should say what is wrong and what is right. In this case, the way they are reacting is a kind of unnecessary apprehension that is exhibited on their part. This kind of undemocratic attitude by such regional parties is not acceptable,” the Law Minister added.
Meanwhile, the BJD has maintained that the delimitation process would be detrimental to Odisha’s interests. The Congress has also expressed its concerns on the matter.
Odisha Will Suffer: BJD
“It has not been done since 1971. There are many constituencies where an MP represents many people, while it is very less in some cases. If delimitation is carried out in southern states based on population, then the seats of MPs and MLAs will go down. Odisha will be affected,” BJD leader Amar Patnaik said.
“The delimitation planning is being done hastily. If this is implemented, then there is a projection that Odisha may loss three MP seats in the Parliament. As many as 17 districts in the State will be affected,” Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Bhakta Charan Das said.
