Amidst the race against time, multiple agencies including the Indian Army, Navy and other volunteers have intensified search and rescue operations post massive landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district. The rescue operation has entered its fifth day on Saturday. OTV team has also reached ground zero and captured the devastation caused by the disaster.
A massive operation is currently underway to search for survivors who are believed to be trapped in collapsed buildings and under the debris. Several homes are now filled with mud and timber. The rescue agencies are carrying out operations to search for missing persons as well.
Huge rocks and wooden logs have wiped out several properties during the landslide which speaks volumes about the tragedy which claimed over 300 lives.
A senior official said, “We had launched rescue operations after the landslide. Today, we have rescued a dead body. NDRF has deployed four teams in the affected areas. When we reached here, there was a flood and we saw people on rooftops.”
The NDRF official further said that huge rocks are creating problems. Initially, after the machines reached the spot, we have intensified search operations after the restoration of roads and other works.
