According to official sources, as many as 43 blocks across 15 districts have received over 50 millimetres of rainfall in the last 24 hours, leading to increased river inflows. The Hirakud Dam is currently discharging water through 12 sluice gates, with a decision pending on opening more gates if the situation worsens.

Despite the rising water levels, the Department confirmed that no immediate danger has been detected, although precautionary measures are being enforced.

“Due to heavy rainfall, river inflow will increase from today. Water accumulation is expected in low-lying areas. However, the current water levels in all rivers are still below the ‘danger mark’,”

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued instructions to District Collectors in areas likely to be affected by heavy rainfall, urging them to remain on high alert.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rain in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, while districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Jharsuguda are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, according to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until July 28 due to hazardous weather conditions.

Notably, the IMD has issued a Red Warning for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
