In a tragic incident, a woman allegedly thrashed her 16-month-old daughter mercilessly over a family feud at Harichandanpur village under Banapur block in Khordha district.
The accused has been identified as Banita Nayak. The video of the incident has reportedly gone viral over various social media platforms.
Following the development, the uncle of the baby lodged a complaint at Banapur Police Station in connection with the incident. Subsequently, Banapur Police brought both the mother and the daughter to the police station and questioned the accused about the matter.
As per police sources, the accused Banita confessed about thrashing her daughter. She admitted that she thrashed her daughter over a family feud and sent the video of the incident to her husband residing in Kerala.
After seeing the video, Banita’s husband Pramod Nayak requested his elder brother Madhaba Nayak for the security of his daughter following which Madhaba lodged a written complaint in connection with the incident at the police station.
“My younger brother requested me to save his daughter as his wife was thrashing her mercilessly. Subsequently, I lodged a complaint at the police station,” said Madhaba.
“What could I do if there was a quarrel in our family on a daily basis? I have not made the video viral. It has been done by somebody else,” said Banita.
However, no comments were received from the police.
