One thousand letters addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were posted at Gop post office in Puri district. In the letters, the CM has been requested to take steps to end reoccurring flood situation in Gop block.
Leaving all surprised, members of the Dhanua Flood Action Committee on Friday reached Gop post office with hundreds of postcards. Investigation revealed that the Dhanua River is the bane of thousands of people in four blocks of Puri district. Flood in the river occurs every three/four years, leaving them at the receiving end.
They have been taking the matter up with the officials and political leaders but to no avail. This time they wanted to do something different so that their demand would be heard loud and clear and the administration would wake up from its deep slumber.
They had decided that they would send 1,000 postcards to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
As per the plan, the Dhanua Flood Action Committee members collected the postcards and marched toward the Gop post office. At the post office, they dropped all the letters in the letter box.
They hoped their step would yield fruit.
“It is our initial step. We have written letters to the CM requesting him to find out a permanent solution to the flood situation. He always asks ‘Apana Mane Khusi Ta?’ (Are you happy?) So, we will be happy when he will find a permanent solution to end our problem.”
