Vigilance arrests JE Susanta Sethy in DA case; accused ‘parked ill-gotten cash of Rs 55 lakh and 1.4 kg gold in tenant’s house’

A day after launching simultaneous searches, the Vigilance department on Saturday arrested Susanta Kumar Sethy, the junior engineer (JE) of R&B Khariar division in Nuapada in disproportionate assets (DA) case.

What Vigilance Found?

The searches were conducted at eight different locations linked to Sethy, including in Bhubaneswar and Puri.

Senior Vigilance officials informed that Sethy was found in possession of disproportionate assets, including 3 multi storeyed buildings,1 Farmhouse, 9 high-value plots, 2 costly four-wheelers, including 1 benami car, deposits worth Rs.55 lakhs, household articles worth over Rs.14 Lakh, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

Shocking Findings

During the investigation, the Vigilance officials learnt to have allegedly kept huge ill-gotten money of Rs 55 Lakh and gold weighing 1.4 kg in the house of his tenant to evade detection during Vigilance raids, which was usurped by the tenant.

In this connection, the spouse of Sethy had lodged an FIR in Dhauli Police Station in Bhubaneswar 13.4.2024 against the tenant for not returning the same. The case is now under investigation by the Dhauli Police Station. 

This cash and gold ornaments are suspected to have been the ill-gotten money of Sethy, which is under verification, Vigilance officials said in a statement.
