Almost a week after an Indian Army Major of the Sikh Regiment and his fiancee were allegedly assaulted in Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar, a purported video of the couple being harassed by a group of road romeos has surfaced online.

The scuffle shows the road romeos, including engineering students, harassing and assaulting the Army Major and his fiancee. They can be heard hurling abuses, threatening and physically pushing the Army Major and his fiancee.

Even as the Army Major calmly tries to bring the situation under control, the miscreants even beat him up. The video is before the couple reached out to Bharatpur police for help which eventually led to their assault in the police custody.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has detained seven people including students of two engineering colleges. They are being questioned in connection with the scuffle while efforts are on to identify others involved in the case.

The detained youths are most likely to be arrested and produced in court.

Earlier, the Army officer in his complaint to Odisha Crime Branch, which is investigating the case said 10-12 men in three vehicles waylaid and assaulted him and passed lewd remarks on his fiancee.

Meanwhile, at least five cops of Bharatpur police station including the IIC have been booked for sexual assault and other offences, based on a complaint lodged by the Army Officer.

On the other hand, Odisha CM Mohan Majhi and Deputy CM Pravati Parida have demanded stringent action against the police officials, who are currently suspended.
