Veterinary doctors warn to go on mass leave over equal pay for equal work demand

The veterinary doctors association in Odisha has warned to go on a mass leave alleging negligence by the government.

In a press conference in Bhubaneswar, the doctors alleged the State government has neglected the transformation of the service sector including the veterinary service.

The vets have been demanding pay and career progression at par with allopathic doctors, cadre restructuring, and transformation of the service delivery system in the veterinary department.

They warned to go on a mass strike and go on mass leave if their demands are not met by January 4.

Speaking to reporters, Secretary of the Veterinary Service Association (OVSA) Shankarshan Mahunta said, “While the government is putting more and more focus on the healthcare sector, the veterinary service has largely been neglected. We will have to resort to mass leave if the government does not listen to us by January 4.”

Earlier, the veterinarians wore black badges in February this year protesting the alleged apathetic attitude of the state government toward their long-standing demands.
