A day after an irate mob went berserk and set fire to Phiringia police station in Kandhamal district, Police have swung into action mode and registered a case against 30 odd persons.
Moreover, the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Phiringia police station Tapan Kumar Nahak has been transferred to the headquarters. Similarly, two home guards have been relieved from work, informed Kandhamal SP Suvendu Kumar Patra
According to Patra, 15 persons have been detained in connection with yesterday’s incident and case has been registered against 30 persons in connection with the attack on police station and assault on our personnel.
A detailed probe is currently underway to ascertain the involvement of persons in setting fire to Phiringia police station and attack on some police personnel including the SDPO.
Meanwhile, the entire Phiringia market now wears a deserted look. Fearing arrests, several people have fled from the area, sources said. Police are conducting raids at different parts and have intensified investigation into the matter.
It is pertinent to mention here that irate locals set Phiringia Police Station on fire and also thrashed the SDPO along with other officials alleging police involvement in ganja peddling in the area on Saturday.
On August 3, a police van allegedly loaded with ganja was apprehended by Phiringia sarpanch, former sarpanch and locals while the vehicle was on its way to Budhakambha village to allegedly sell the contraband to a peddler. The villagers also shot the video on the entire incident and sent it to Kandhamal SP demanding stringent action against the IIC and other staff of the police station.
As no action was initiated against the errant police officials, the irate locals resorted to a protest and staged a road-blockade at Phiringia block chhak disrupting vehicular movement on Phulbani-Baliguda route.
“An investigation will be conducted to ascertain the authenticity of the viral video. We also urge people to open their shops,” Patra added.
