India is poised to mark its 76th Republic Day on Sunday, highlighting unique festivities on ten islands along the coastline of Odisha. In a first-time move, these celebrations align with an initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage a more inclusive participation in national events.
Security arrangements along the islands have been significantly bolstered, as confirmed by Sanjay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADG). Comprehensive preparations have been undertaken to ensure safety during these celebrations.
The main state-level parade will occur on Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar, featuring participants from the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and approximately 48 to 49 police contingents. A thorough full-dress rehearsal took place on Friday to fine-tune these preparations.

In Bhubaneswar, CCTV systems have been strategically deployed to safeguard the parade venues. Meanwhile, in the city of Cuttack, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is set to heighten the patriotic fervour by hoisting the national flag.
Particular attention is being paid to areas impacted by Naxalite influence, where joint forces from the CRPF and Odisha Police have been dispatched to uphold peace and security.
“Statewide, police forces have redoubled their efforts to secure Republic Day celebrations, with particular focus on Naxalite-affected regions. Personnel from the CRPF and Odisha police have been deployed in interior regions of the State to maintain safety and order. All police superintendents have been instructed to be on high alert,” said ADG Sanjay Kumar.
