The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take strict action against unauthorised digging and cutting of roads in order to lay cables or create drains under its jurisdiction in Bhubaneswar.
The decision was taken on Wednesday in an interdepartmental coordination meeting chaired by BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
All the stakeholders like WATCO, R&B, TPCODL, OPTCL, GAIL, Power Grid, Telecom companies and BSCL were present in the meeting.
In the meeting, the civic body has decided to lodge FIRs against persons and organisations found digging up or blocking roads for construction, sewerage, laying of cables and pipe lines, installing poles without obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC) from it.
All the stakeholders have been directed to properly barricade the construction site for public safety. Moreover, the civic body has directed the agencies to ensure real-time lifting of Construction and Demolition (C&D).
Notably, BMC received many complaints in this regard in its complaint cell. Even in the corporation meeting of BMC, the corporators have drawn attention to such problems.
The BMC Commissioner said that if there is any violation, then an FIR will be lodged against the concerned organisation or person. Also, construction materials including, sand, soil, gravel, etc and debris cannot be piled on the roadside, he said.
